Website Cookie Policy
Last updated: 30 October 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how VBKOM (“VBKOM”, “we”, “us”) uses cookies and similar technologies on www.vbkom.com, what they do, and the choices you have. Please read it together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use.
VBKOM, 95 Lyttelton Road, Clubview, Centurion, 0046, South Africa, is responsible for this website. This policy is written with the laws that apply to our visitors in mind, including South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and ePrivacy rules, Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Australia’s Privacy Act 1988.
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device when you visit it. They let the site recognise your device and remember information between pages or visits.
- First-party cookies are set by the website you are visiting. Third-party cookies are set by another organisation, such as an analytics provider.
- Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay on your device until they expire or you delete them.
Similar technologies, such as your browser’s session storage, do much the same job. We refer to all of these as “cookies” in this policy unless we say otherwise.
How We Use Cookies
We use cookies for two purposes only: to make the site work as you would expect, and to understand how it is used so that we can improve it. We do not use cookies to advertise to you, and we do not sell the information they collect.
Strictly Necessary
These remember your cookie choice, so that we don’t ask you on every page. They are needed for the site to work as intended and they don’t require your consent. We also use your browser’s session storage to remember your place in our project and news lists, so that the back link returns you to the same view. It is cleared when you close the tab.
Analytics
With your consent, we use Google Analytics to measure how many people visit the site, which pages they view, how they arrived and what type of device and browser they use. We use this to improve the site’s content and performance, not to identify individual visitors. These cookies are only set if you click “Agree” on our cookie banner. If you click “Decline”, or don’t choose, Google Analytics does not load.
The Cookies We Use
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Type | Expires |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| cookie_consent | VBKOM | Remembers whether you agreed to or declined cookies | Strictly necessary | 12 months |
| _ga | Distinguishes one visitor from another | Analytics | 2 years | |
| _ga_HW0WSDGWYN, _ga_8NZR3LDB4F | Keeps track of your current visit | Analytics | 2 years |
Third Parties
Google provides our analytics and processes the data it collects on our behalf. That data may be transferred to and processed in other countries, including the United States. Read more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Our site links to our LinkedIn, Facebook and YouTube pages. Those sites don’t set cookies through ours, but they will set their own if you follow a link, and their own policies then apply. Articles may also include embedded content, such as a video, whose provider may set cookies when you view it.
Your Choices
You are in control of cookies. Analytics cookies are not set unless you click “Agree”, and you can change your mind at any time. The link below deletes our analytics cookies from your device, stops Google Analytics from loading and shows the cookie banner again, so you can choose again.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you block all cookies, the cookie banner will reappear on each visit, as we can’t remember your choice.
To opt out of Google Analytics on every website you visit, you can install Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
Our Legal Basis
We set analytics cookies on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. Withdrawing it does not affect anything we did before you withdrew it. We set strictly necessary cookies because they are needed to provide the site you asked for, which is in our legitimate interests and, where these rules apply, is exempt from the consent requirement.
Your Rights
Where information collected through cookies is personal information, the law where you live may give you the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you and request a copy
- ask us to correct or delete it
- object to or restrict how we process it, or ask us to transfer it
- withdraw your consent at any time
- complain to your data protection authority
To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@vbkom.com.
The authorities include:
- South Africa: Information Regulator
- European Union: your national data protection authority
- United Kingdom: Information Commissioner’s Office
- Canada: Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada
- Australia: Office of the Australian Information Commissioner
Changes To This Policy
We may update this policy when the cookies we use or the laws that apply change. We will post any changes on this page and update the date at the top. If we add a new type of non-essential cookie, we will ask for your consent again.
