Kumba contracted VBKOM to complete a comprehensive bottleneck analysis and implementation of business improvement strategies across the mining value chain. Focusing on identifying operational constraints and optimising resource allocation to maximise the value of the ore body and extend the longevity thereof.

Key activities and outputs included a Detailed feasibility study (DFS), and a strategic roadmap that integrated mine planning with infrastructure requirements. Specialised technical expertise in pit-to-port logistics, cost estimation models, and risk assessments to ensure optimal decision-making.

The technical approach was tailored to the specific requirements of the Iron Ore Surface Mining operation in South Africa, with the prevailing project, operational and study conditions informing the assessment throughout.

The assignment was managed as an integrated body of work, ensuring alignment between the technical inputs, activities undertaken and resulting outputs. Throughout the project, the work remained focused on the agreed objectives and the intended application of the findings. Technical analysis was supported by structured documentation and clear communication, resulting in a practical and transparent body of work that the client could review and use to inform subsequent project decisions and activities.
